Warner Bros. and Guillermo del Toro are ready to cancel the apocalypse with”Pacific Rim.”
The massive blockbuster — about giant monsters attacking Earth, and the equally giants robots that the human race builds to combat them — is set for release on July 12, and now audiences can get another glimpse at the film’s large scale. Warner Bros. released a new trailer for “Pacific Rim” on Monday, one that played at WonderCon back in late March.
“This was originally intended for only WonderCon, but after listening to so many of you asking for more of the movie online, I think it’s time for me to show you more footage,” Del Toro wrote in a note accompanying the video. “Enjoy, my friends!”
So, how big is “Pacific Rim”? At the end of the above clip, one of the giant robots uses an oil tanker to crack a giant monster in the face. A brief look at the plot courtesy of voice over by the film’s star, Charlie Hunnam:
“Alien life. They came from deep beneath the Pacific. The first made land in San Francisco. The Jaeger program was born. Two pilots, mind-melding through memories with the bodies of machines. We started winning. Then it all changed. They counted on the humans to hide; to fail. They never considered we’d rise to the challenge.”
Indeed; or, as Idris Elba shouts in the trailer: “Today we face the monsters at our door … we are canceling the apocalypse.”
